Posted by pdmx on 22 mar : 17:28

"ARROYOMOLINOS (Spain) 22 March 2024 – The 2024 FIM Motocross World Championship sweeps onto European shores for the first time as the intu-Xanadú Arroyomolinos circuit near Madrid hosts the second round in front of what is sure to be a passionate and plentiful crowd of Spanish fans ready to cheer on their own World Champion, and urge perhaps the next one to victory in the opening round of the WMX Women’s World Motocross Championships! Spanish teenager Daniela Guillen takes her RFME GASGAS MX Junior Team machine towards her aim of going one better then her 2nd-placed finish here in 2022. Defending Champion Courtney Duncan will be tough to beat for F&H Racing Kawasaki, at a track where she has always walked away with the 1st place trophy!..."

The 2024 season sees the reigning World MXGP Champion Jorge Prado trying to defend the #1 plate he wears for Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing, and he started in fine style with the overall Grand Prix win at the opener in Argentina, taking a three-point lead into this second round. Equai in 2nd is Team HRC’s Tim Gajser and Romain Febvre for the Kawasaki Racing Team, and in fact the entire top five in the points standings is filled with former World Champions.

Standing Construct Honda rider Pauls Jonass put in a great day in Argentina to currently lie in 4th, whilst Maxime Renaux sits in 5th for the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team. The big surprise is that Red Bull KTM Factory Racing talisman Jeffrey Herlings is currently 7th in the points, but will enjoy the feel-good memories from last year, when he broke the all-time GP win record at this weekend’s Spanish circuit.

The MX2 World Championship saw some incredible racing in Argentina, with the podium positions changing in the last few corners of all three races across the weekend, with Kay de Wolf of Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing collecting his second career GP win. His teammate Lucas Coenen won the RAM Qualifying Race last time around but crashed out of race one on Sunday! Look for the Belgian teenage firebrand to strike back in Spain!

Simon Laengenfelder won both Sunday races for Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing in Spain last season, and maintained his habit of winning race one in Argentina. Will he finally be able to seal the overall GP win at intu-Xanadú Arroyomolinos? Thibault Benistant, Rick Elzinga, and Andrea Bonacorsi for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing MX2, and young star Ferruccio Zanchi for the new MX2 Team HRC effort will be looking to build on steady starts to the season.

The new Monster Energy Triumph Racing team shocked everybody by taking a podium finish on its very first attempt in Argentina, and their Danish charger Mikkel Haarup looks ready to take the sleek black TF 250-X machine onto another podium visit in the country where the team spent most of its winter!
